Our second cycle of stakeholder workshops has concluded in Fuerteventura!
Our partners at ECOAQUA (ULPGC) and Hummel Foundation for Sustainable Solutions (Netherlands) have successfully completed their second round of stakeholder focused workshops which were held on the 13th and 15th of January, in Centro Insular de Juventud del Cabildo de Fuerteventura. This workshop was designed to address coastal management and conservation strategies by creating a multi-actor forum with people working in the marine environment. This workshop facilitated discussions regarding the balance between socio-economic activities, and marine conservation.

As part of the morning sessions, Marine SABRES partners provided an overview of the results from the first cycle of stakeholder consultations which took place in July 2023 and focused on providing a platform for participants to share valuable insights about their coastal and marine environment. Participants were then provided with information about the progress so far, and detailed how the second cycle of consultations would help build upon previous feedback, and critically evaluate the work done since then.
You can find a summary of the consultation day below and in the following article:
This event was attended by over 30 stakeholders and representatives from administrations, such as the Councillor for the Environment, Climate, Energy and Knowledge of the Island Council of Gran Canaria, Raúl García Brink, the artisanal fishing sector, associations with activities linked to the coastal and marine environment, conservation NGOs, marine tourism companies and research centres, among others.
We would like to take the opportunity to thank all of our participants in this workshop for their invaluable insights and perspectives!
